Shopping FAQs

Do my children qualify to visit the CTKF Store?

Children who attend school in Fairfield County (K-12th grade, or working toward a GED), who are considered low-income or in-crisis can shop at the CTKF Store. Children under 4 years old are not eligible.

Please review our Who Qualifies? page for more information.

How do I schedule an appointment?

Parents or guardians can contact our Appointment Coordinator

What do I need to bring with me?

Families must bring a referral letter (an original document, printed on the letterhead of the referring agency) or a free and reduced lunch (an official notification letter from the current school year) with them to shop, along with photo ID (parent or guardian). No other paperwork is necessary.

Please review our How It Works page for more information.

Where are you located?

The CTKF store is located in the Boys & Girls Club of Stamford’s Yerwood Clubhouse at 90 Fairfield Avenue in Stamford. The store is open by appointment only.

Do my children need to shop with me?

It is recommended that the children come and shop, but it isn’t required.

Dressing rooms allow kids to try on clothing. Toys are available for young children to play with while parents shop, but we kindly ask clients to closely supervise their children during the appointment.

How much clothing will the children get?

Each eligible child may shop twice in a 12-month period for a full week’s worth of school clothes. This includes 5 tops, 4 bottoms (pants, shorts or skirts), 1 dress (optional), 1 jacket, 1 pair of shoes and 5 new pairs of underwear and socks. We call this the CTK Wardrobe. Volunteer personal shoppers work with families to help them find complete wardrobes for each child. Extra items, such as pajamas, gloves, hats and toys may also be available. Wardrobe items may not be substituted.

What is the return/exchange policy?

Exchanges on items that do not fit are allowed within 2 weeks of the original shopping date. Items must have their original tag attached. Socks and underwear may not be returned or exchanged for any reason. No appointment is needed to exchange clothing.

Can parents get clothing too?

How often can I shop?

Clothes To Kids of Fairfield County is a year-round program. Eligible children may shop twice in a 12-month period, and must have a valid referral and an appointment each time they visit.  Please review our How It Works page for more information.

Where does your clothing come from?

Most of our clothing is donated from families who have children that have grown out of their clothing.
