Team CTKF rocked the 2021 Five Boro Bike Tour

On Sunday, August 29, 2021 Clothes To Kids of Fairfield County (CTKF) joined 20,000+ cyclists from around the world for the 43rd annual TD Five Boro Bike Tour. Team CTKF rode the 2021 TD Five Boro Bike Tour to raise money for kids in need of school clothing in Fairfield County, Connecticut.

The ten members of Team CTKF raised $15,837 for children in great need.

The Five Boro Bike Ride of 2021 was very special. The riders on our team ranged in age from 13 to 82, quite a spread. The ride was for everyone. There was an amazing sense of normalcy and decency. The spectators rooting us on, the singers offering a distraction from any discomfort, the police ensuring a safe ride, and the volunteers providing nourishment to maintain our energy levels. Though the Ride of 2021 was more subdued than those of previous years, for me, this ride was the most memorable.

Memorable because there was a sense that people cared about the welfare of the person next to them. Everyone was aware of others and wore masks. Not on the ride itself, but on the Ferry, despite the Ferry being out in the open. When I fell, people stopped what they were doing to assist me. It felt like a return to normal. It was relaxing and just fun.

Kids Helping Kids volunteers donate school-ready backpacks

During the Kids Helping Kids “Smiles for School” volunteer day, two dozen backpacks filled with essential school supplies were donated to Clothes To Kids of Fairfield County. Just in time, as our back to school preparations are in full gear!

“Smiles For School” is a volunteer project for elementary aged students entering grades 1-5. It was started by a 1st grader, Conor, who wanted to help other kids that could not get their own school supplies. The youth volunteers (and their parents/guardians) gathered to pack the new school bags on Saturday, August 3rd at the CTKF Store in Stamford. The kids decorated pencil cases with their own unique designs, and then packed up new backpacks with needed school supplies for elementary-aged kids who qualify for free or reduced lunch.

Supplies included in the backpacks:

  • 2 pocket plastic folders
  • Large glue sticks
  • Washable markers, colored pencils and crayons
  • Fiskars/kids scissors
  • #2 Pencils
  • New underwear or socks for boys and girls

As an organization, Kids Helping Kids talks with their volunteers about how small acts of kindness can make a big difference in our world. The ultimate goal for “Smiles For School” was to spread cheer about the upcoming school year!  Thank you Team KHK!
